Welcome to Nepal, a country full of ethnical diversity, ancient culture, mystical traditions and home to the Himalayas and Mount Everest. Although Nepal is a beautiful country, it is still under development and many rural villages are behind on basic necessities such as safe living, school facilities, public and personal hygiene, proper water facilities, environmental innovations and rights for women. Welcome Home Nepal started after the devastating earthquake of 2015 and devoted itself to the support of children with disabilities. Helping and aiding these children until the end of 2017. The Founder of Welcome Home Mr. Raj Kumar Rai discovered that not only children with disabilities are in need of support but also the rural villages who are forced to live in unsafe structures due to lack of materials and insight. After a short break Welcome Home started again in 2018 and this time focusing on more different topics to support the rural villages in Nepal.
Starting in Waku village in the Solukhumbu District of Nepal, Welcome Home found after a study that the village is located in a dangerous landslide area. In order to save the village from a disaster Welcome Home together with its participants has successfully relocated the village to a more secure and safe area. Not only just relocating but also building new earthquake safe buildings using local materials and making sure that families have access to one of life’s most basic necessity, secure living! Welcome Home Nepal works strongly together with the local government to ensure the success of this project and to indefinitely help and support the rural villages of Nepal!
The focus points of Welcome Home Nepal are:
Safe Building:
By using local available materials, support from the whole village and the newest earthquake safe building designs, we can with your help and or support build safe and secure houses for entire villages!
Child support:
As Welcome Home started as a support organization for children with disabilities, it still continues its work with children of Nepal. Making sure there is proper education, personal and social growth opportunities, and supporting with school materials. Participants or others can also support a local child to ensure its growth and development!
Women empowerment:
In many rural villages there is still an outdated system that lets women be depended on their spouses. In a modern day and age it is of most importance that every women can be independent and self-providing. In this project we will focus on the training of women in the rural villages in marketing skills, independent strategizing, job employment and women’s rights.
Environment:
The environment in the world is under constant attack due to overpopulation, deforestation, exhaustion of soil and so on. Unfortunately although havening an enormous area dedicated to jungles, streams, mountain ranges and valleys filled with different fauna and flora. Nepal is also under attack, trail litter due to overpopulation, deforestation due to lack of materials and soil exhaustion due to overplanting to earn faster profits, Nepal is on the wrong track in matters of the environment. Welcome Home organizes eco-friendly tours and treks to rural villages to teach of the importance of forest replantation, how to use safer and more natural fertilizer, and how to dispose of litter in a natural responsible way. With your help we can show the world that a green planet is a clean plant!
Water projects:
Nepal, although ranked in the top 5 as country in possession of the most natural water is suffering of water shortages. Welcome Home found that many rural villages don’t have the materials or the right innovation access to tap out that natural water and spring life to their fields and villages. Also from nearby streams the cost and delay of bringing that water source to the fields is incredible and harsh. By organizing projects and installing drinking wells, pumps and researching the possibilities of irrigation channels, Welcome Home can with the support of its participants make an eternal change to this situation. Where there is water there is life, and so we feel strongly in the support of this project.
Funding:
As Welcome Home strongly believes in equal chances, the organization has opened a return giving fund to the village. In order to deal with health emergencies, quick building repairs, livestock or field matters many villagers need small loans to fix these matters. The fund is being started by Welcome Home and works in a way that the villagers have direct access to quick money without having to deal with strict rules. On top of that interests to be paid to the fund is being used to support the villages with Welcome Home’s other focus points such as safe building! In that way the villagers are providing them self a part of the financial support the village needs. Welcome Home invites you to support this fund by means of donations, child support or even your participation in the field!
